8 Bathroom Renovation Tips and Advice

Beautiful bathrooms. They demand to be admired. It's no secret that at some point in our lives, we have all walked into a bathroom and marvelled at its beauty. Whether at a spa, hotel, restaurant or someone's home - a bathroom with that 'wow' factor leaves a lasting impression and lets us dream of all the ways we would renovate our own. Well, if you're here, chances are that you are no longer dreaming and it's now your (bathrooms) time to shine.

We've put together a few ideas to inspire you to make the most out of your bathroom.

1) Include niches and recesses

Niches and recesses are a fantastic way to add more space into your bathroom without taking up....well...space. As well as offering additional storage room, they are a great way to add something a bit different to your bathroom too. You can get creative with these, adding a pop of colour to them or having them tiled differently to the rest of the wall, for example.

2) Mirror, mirror, on the wall...

Mirrors and magic seem to go hand in hand and the same could be said about a mirrors effect on a bathroom. With multiple mirrors, you are able to create the illusion of a bigger space and you can generate more light simply by letting it bounce around between them. This is especially useful if you have a small bathroom, but it's also a great way to get creative too.

3) Consider a bidet/bidet attachments

Becoming increasing popular, bidets are a great way to up your hygiene game. Gone are the days where a bidet was found solely in the fanciest of homes; they can be installed in bathrooms of all kinds and now, with bidet attachments you can easily incorporate one into your bathroom without taking up valuable space. Win win!

4) Secret power points

There is no place for unsightly wires in a beautiful bathroom. That's where secret power points come in. Built into your vanity unit or mirror cabinet (or any cabinet for that matter), they provide a smart way to charge personal care items such as electric toothbrushes, shavers and so on, as well as a handy place for powering electrical products like hairdryers.

5) Keep it toasty

Ever hung a towel on a hook, reached for it the next day only to find it's still a bit damp? There's something so disappointing about trying to dry yourself with a wet towel. Heated towel rails or towel poles can be incorporated into a bathroom of any size. Sleek, stylish and available in an array of shapes and sizes, a heated towel rail is a must for a modern bathroom.

6) Make a statement

Creating a bathroom with that 'wow' factor is easily done with a statement feature. Giving your bathroom a focal point has many perks, from adding a touch of luxury to drawing attention away from less attractive points of a bathroom, a statement feature in a bathroom is beautiful and classy. Features don't have to cost a lot, either. Patterned tiles, a standalone bathtub, unique mirrors, stunning tapware...the possibilities are endless.

7) Keep it easy

Have ever felt like all you do it clean the bathroom, and yet it is never clean? Bathrooms, as beautiful as they can be, are notorious for either their difficulty to clean or for their inability to stay clean for longer than a few days. Opt for materials that clean up easy. Black fixtures are wonderful at hiding fingerprints and water marks but need extra care when cleaning so as to ensure the black coating isn't damaged, stainless steel is easy to clean but looks grubby much quicker for example.

8) Plan for plenty of storage

Underestimating the amount of storage needed in a bathroom is unfortunately a common mistake that's easy to make. Minimalistic bathrooms are beautiful, but a bathroom with inadequate storage can quickly turn your dream bathroom into a nightmare. Shelves, recesses and cabinetry are all wonderful ways to maximise storage space whilst still looking attractive.

Most importantly

You want your bathroom to represent you and your family. You can make it as unique as you like, fundamentally you just want it to be safe and functional. The rest is up to you! Have fun and create a bathroom that you can't wait to walk into.
