Bathroom Renovation Trends to Watch in 2025

Updated: 6 days ago

We’re a few months in to 2025, and it’s clear that bathrooms are no longer just practical spaces — they’re becoming places of comfort, calm and rejuvenation. Whether you’re planning a full bathroom renovation this year or are looking at making a few upgrades to your space, we have put together our favourite trends that we believe are well worth considering.

Let’s take a look at some of the top bathroom renovation trends for 2025, and how you can incorporate them into your design.

Warm, Natural Finishes

2025 is all about shifting away from cold, clinical bathrooms and embracing natural materials such as timber, stone and brushed brass. These varying materials and textures add warmth and contrast to one another creating an inviting aesthetic. Think: timber vanities, soft earthy tile tones and finishes that bring in a sense of nature and calm.

These elements work beautifully with both modern and classic styles — and they’re especially suited to our beautiful New Zealand homes, where natural light and earthy tones go wonderfully hand in hand.

Walk-In Showers – Luxe Edition

Walk-in, open-plan showers continue to be hugely popular — but this year, it’s all about upgrading the experience. Oversized tiles, rainfall showerheads, built-in niches, and subtle LED lighting are helping create that spa-like feel.

Frameless glass and minimalist fittings keep things looking sleek and open, even in smaller bathrooms.

Double Vanities (Yes - Even in Smaller Spaces!)

More homeowners are looking to make their bathrooms work better for busy mornings. Double vanities used to be reserved for large bathrooms, and large bathrooms only, but this year, we’re seeing more creative designs that fit them into smaller spaces, too.

A well-designed double vanity can save time and reduce stress — particularly for families or couples with busy routines.

Statement Lighting

Lighting is no longer just functional — it’s a feature. This year, bathrooms are seeing a rise in pendant lights, wall sconces, and even small chandeliers. Layered lighting (task, ambient, and accent) not only looks great, but also makes the space more practical and inviting.

Pair that with dimmers or warm-toned LEDs, and you’ve got a space that feels relaxing at night and energising in the morning.

Sustainable Choices

Renovating your home is one of the biggest investment you will ever make, so it’s a wise idea to think long-term with your design. With a bathroom, that means choosing water-efficient tapware, LED lighting, low-flow toilets, and durable materials that stand the test of time. It’s not just better for the environment — it’s better for your budget too.

We’re also seeing more interest in locally made vanities and fittings, which helps reduce the carbon footprint of a renovation - and supports local businesses, too. (A win-win in our books!)

Smart Features (Done Subtly)

Technology is creeping into the bathroom — but in a low-key way. Heated towel rails with timers, underfloor heating, demister mirrors, and touch-free taps are becoming standard in many homes. These features add comfort and convenience without over-complicating things.
